Work parties will be suspended during the summer so volunteers can devlote their time to watering and weeding in the newly planted areas during the dry months. Regular work parties will be resumed in September on the fourth Saturday of the month from 10:00 to 1:00.
Contact Peter Mason  if you'd like to to be on the watering team, and let Deirdre McCrary (below) know if you'd like to be added to our e-mail list for notification of when work parties will occur. Or watch this site for announcements.

ImagePeople of all ages, talents, and backgrounds volunteer to restore Madrona Woods.  Friendly, experienced workers are happy to share their knowledge and discoveries with new volunteers, and working in the woods is an effective way to learn about plants and ecosystems.

ImageIf you can't distinguish Oregon grape from holly, an hour in Madrona Woods will teach you the difference, as well as provide you with the satisfaction of helping to make a community resource healthier, safer, and more beautiful. If you can't pull, dig, clip, or saw, the work-party crew welcomes other kinds of help: provide a snack ; donate native plants to replace invasives in the woods; sharpen our clippers, wash our gloves, or organize our toolbox. We can also use someone to carry a clipboard when we're planting to record what and where we plant for future monitoring.
Current Needs
  • We're looking for people to help organize and supervise work parties.
  • We'll need help with monitoring now that construction is complete. Would you like to help count plants or bugs? Monitoring, planting and maintenance will help other community groups and the city, state and federal agencies that support such projects.

ImageIf you enjoy working with students, let us know and we'll notify you when one of the schools is coming to the woods to tour and do a little restoration. Garfield High School's afer-school Earth Service Corps will be coming regularly to work in an adopted plot throughout the school year.

To volunteer, contact Deirdre McCrary at (206) 325-9035 or use our Contact Page.
