Daylighting update

4/22/08

The wetland cove, the sculpted natural area at the lakefront, the first bridge, and streambeds in the park and across the boulevard in Madrona Woods were finished in October, and  the stream in the lower ravine is now flowing into the lake. Volunteers have  planted about 6000 native plants to soften the landscape and provide habitat for young salmon and other critters in years to come. The construction fence around the cove area stayed up until the end of April to give the new plants a bit of a headstart and allow volunteers John Darrah, Bill Scott, Pieter Van Der Meulen, and Collin Darrah to finish the railing along the trail.

The Spring Street trail is closed at the lower entrance until a second bridge is constructed there. The holes for the footings were dug by Pacific Earth Works before they left in October, but we need more money to complete the bridge itself. Our grants currently will not cover bridges and trails—only fish-related elements—so if you would like to donate towards a bridge, the time is now.

The final phase of the project involves connecting the 2/3 of the final flow which will come from the upper Madrona Park Ravine with a culvert under 38th Street. We have submitted grant applications for almost $200,000. Keep your fingers crossed that our requests are granted so we can finish the daylighting this coming fall. Click here to donate.
